Dance Awareness Inclusion Award Winner: Wings to Fly performing an original dance routine to She Loves to Move
She Loves to Move
The National Center on Sexual Exploitation invited us to be part of an online panel discussion on the importance of advocacy in the arts. On the call we met a woman named Mary Bawden, the founder and Director of Dance Awareness. The Mission of Dance Awareness is to bring international awareness and education to stop the exploitation of children through hyper-sexualization in dance. Mary asked if Music for the Soul could create a theme song that would share the heart of their organization.
The result was a waltz entitled, She Loves to Move, a duet where two parents sing about the joy of watching how much their little girl loves to dance. Dance Awareness subsequently held a nationwide call inviting children’s dance companies to choreograph an original dance to the song. There were several marvelous entries but the one that touched me the most deeply was an entry by a group called Wings to Fly. A video of their routine is posted below:
